Check your speed

The basics

There are two main types of broadband: ADSL and Cable. ADSL comes down your phone line. Cable comes down a fibre optic cable.

The type you can get depends on where you live – about half of the country can get cable.

As ADSL broadband uses your phone line, the speed you can get will depend on where you live because it slows down the further you live from the telephone exchange.
